He specializes in lessons in audio production technique—that is, the recording, editing and mixing of music. Jay owns and operates IntroVertigo Recording Studio in Boulder. He is also one of the principal recording/mix engineers for the audiophile record label Octave Records. Jay’s discography as a recording/mix engineer is deep and wide-ranging, and includes some of the very best recording artists and musicians on the Front Range. A seasoned professional session and live drummer with several renowned Colorado musical acts, Jay is also currently teaching as an adjunct faculty member in The Music Production Program at The Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design.

Jay holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Massachusetts and a Master’s Degree in Media Studies from The New School in New York City. He excels at the personalized, one-on-one instruction offered at madelife. Jay strives to pass on to his students an informed, purposeful and creative approach to all things audio, recognizing that a “sound” grasp of the fundamentals balanced with fearless experimentation is often where the magic happens.
