madelife is thrilled to have Joe Friend back to lead a Media Transfer Workshop on April 9th 3-5pm.

During this workshop, Denver based photographer and fine artist, Joe Friend, will be joining us on April 9th to lead a gel media workshop and discuss the different aspects of his mixed media works. FRIEND will explain the different qualities of gel media and its ink absorbing properties, how to transfer the ink of photographs on to different surfaces and how to incorporate color and collage into these unique mixed media works.

FRIEND’s fine art emerges as a harmonious blend of layered collage, gestural painting and ink transfers, with a heavy focus on lifestyle portraiture and motifs of personal identity. Utilizing the female form as a platform to showcase his intricate collage work, FRIEND re-contextualizes rippings from fashion magazines into provocative, yet tasteful, compositions. Through his one-of-a-kind mixed media approach, the artist visually explores the ideas of obscured identity, personality and intrapersonal communication.
