Brothertiger is the brainchild of John Jagos, a Brooklyn-based musician whose futuristic electronic music, also known as chillwave, is inspired by science fiction novels. What inspires him about the future? “Looking towards it can always make you feel better,” Jagos explained in a 2013 interview. Jagos began Brothertiger out of his bedroom in 2009 while attending Ohio University. Since then, his sound has spread across the electronic music scene, moving up the college radio charts and leaving an ultramodern haze in its wake. Brothertiger is currently signed with Mush Records.
22-year-old Mac Welch dreamt up Frugal Father as a side project while touring with his band, StaG. The northern California native murmurs more than sings in his recently released EP All You Get, but the end result manages to be both ethereal and acutely honest. Frugal Father’s cheeky tagline “I don’t have kids” doesn’t do justice to the poetry in his songs. “Nowhere to go/But the tree sewn into the road right next to your home,” he croons in “First Trim”. Frugal Father recently signed with HUG records.
madelife is excited to support our very own Frankie Graham, the musician behind Melodeyes. Graham, who grew up in Chicago and moved to Boulder two years ago, professionally produces and composes electronic music. His primary inspirations – STRFKR, Passion Pit, M83, Purity Ring, Tycho, and Youth Lagoon – are apparent in his breezy vocal melodies and heavy reverbs. Melodeyes’ original productions are uplifting and pensive, and illustrate a complete understanding of the complicated process of musical production.
