In anticipation of our Holiday Bazaar, Moonspun Jewelry artist, Katherine Sanz, discussed her creative intentions with us…

Describe your goods, your art, your brand:

Moonspun Jewelry is cosmic couture. A line of jewelry handmade with love. Intentional rearrangement of earthly treasures to reflect the spirit of the divine.

My mother is a jeweler so I’ve been sitting at her feet creating strings of magic for a long as I can remember. A bachelor in fine art, a mentorship with a local jeweler, and many sleepless nights of creation later.. I am an artist!

What have you learned through making that has surprised you?

I am always thrilled to discover that making still thrills me. That moment where metal and stone become a real ring will never get old.

Who or what inspires you most right now?

My 5 month old son, Ocean is the most inspiring creature on the planet earth. Seeing the world through his eyes has inspired a new creative chapter in my life. I see things soft and colorful, playful and vibrant. Where once there was resistance, I now discover curiosity.

Why do you believe art has value?

“Creativity is sacred,

and it is not sacred.

What we make matters enormously,

and it doesn’t matter at all.

We toil alone, and we are

accompanied by spirits

We are terrified, and we are brave.

Art is a crushing chore and

a wonderful privilege.

The work wants to be made, and

It wants to be made through you”

-Elizabeth Gilbert in Big Magic

What will you bring to the bazaar?

I’ll bring my newest collection of cosmic couture earrings and lots of gold bangles. If I’m feeling frisky, I may even bring a piece of hot pink woven wall
art or some fluffy white sheepskin rugs for home.
