- Voice and Vulnerability: Songwriting w/Justina Shandler
January 27, 2018
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
There are some things that cannot be said with words, and that is where music comes in. In this workshop, we will explore the elements that make up a song, as well as discuss ways to create an effective marriage between music and lyrics. You will be given exercises including step-by-step processes that will result in your very own original song. Some other topics discussed are song form, creating conversational melodies, and “trimming the fat” of a song lyric. You will be encouraged to sing and play your original work; however, the emphasis of the class is lyric writing and the revision process. We will have a digital piano available, and participants are welcome to bring their own instruments, but no instruments beyond your voice are necessary or required. All levels welcome. Prerequisite: vulnerability and a good attitude.
