Visual thinking – Translating What You See into Painting
A 2 Day Intensive Painting Workshop with Artist and Designer Carol Ann Wachter
In this intensive 2-day workshop you will develop an understanding of the language of painting and sharpen your visual thinking. We’ll explore Classical and Contemporary paintings to explain elements of composition, color, and light. How we see communicates a great deal about how we think. Moving back and forth between observation and abstraction, each artist will develop their own practice. Through demonstrations and quick life studies paired with abstract thinking, students will discover a clearer direction for their own work.
**Students should purchase and bring to class their own materials**
Materials used in this class will be ink, gouache and / or acrylic paint. Your choice.
flat , filbert and round of varying sizes
Your brushes should relate to the size of your canvas so if you are painting large bring big brushes.
All levels welcome.
About the instructor:
Carol Ann Wachter is a fine artist and designer based in Boulder, Colorado. She studied painting and sculpture, at the Art Institute of Chicago and has shown her work in New York, Connecticut, Colorado, Miami, Paris and Tokyo. After a decade of painting the figure, she moved into abstraction, still holding a space for a figurative element in the work. Saturated color and strong shapes pair up to create abstract works which weave together the movement of energy or life’s force with a personal psychological narrative.
Carol Ann has been featured in the New York Times, Lucky, Elle, Spur (Japan) , Lux, 5280 Magazine, The Daily Camera, and Boulder Lifestyle Magazine and was a featured artist in madelife’s Vibrant Femmes show, July 2017.
