What do I need to bring?
PLEASE bring your own hanging materials if you are hanging work in the show. ***NOTE: We ask that works under 5 lbs be hung without nails, but with 3M command strips. You can purchase those at McGuckin Hardware or Target or through Amazon.
Yourself and a friend, your neighbors, your family – bring your posse to support and purchase affordable art, hear some awesome beats!
How many pieces can I hang?
We recommend 2-4 pieces so the judges can get a taste of your work. On the day, there may be the opportunity to hang more than 4 works. Last year a few artists chose to hang more than 4 pieces and we were able to accommodate on the spot – it will depend upon how many artists show up and the size of people’s work.
Is there a size limit?
We have had a lot of interest in this show, however many artists are asking to bring their larger works. We are coming up against limited wall space. This is a community event in order to showcase as many local artists as possible – please do not bring works larger than 3′ x 4′ (36″ x 48″).
Who is jurying the show?
We are thrilled and honored to have Matt Chasansky, Manager, Boulder’s Office of Arts and Culture, and Lauren Click, Grants Coordinator, Boulder’s Office of Arts and Culture, as well as artist / curator Mark Moffett, Board Member, Arts!Lafayette and artist Ana Maria Hernando, Board Member, MCA Denver, jurying our show.
What time is hanging?
If you pre-register HERE you can hang between 3pm and 4pm. After that time, we will open it up to anyone to hang, between 4pm and 6pm. After that time, we will close our doors and get ready for the party!
What if I can’t make that timeframe?
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org and we can work something out, if you pre-register and are unable to attend on Saturday, you may be able to hang Friday during the day – please arrange with us beforehand at email@example.com
How much does it cost to hang my art?
$5 / per piece hung. This helps madelife cover hard costs like staffing our event, keeping the lights on and the doors open – you understand.
Does the event cost money?
The event is free and open to the public to attend, there is only a small fee to hang your work in the gallery which helps us to cover hard costs like staffing our event.
When is takedown?
It is our hope that people will leave their work up for one week. You MUST take your work down by March 29th. *Madelife is not responsible for any work left in the gallery after March 29th.* The gallery is open during the week, M- F from 10am to 5pm and we will have special gallery hours on Saturday March 24th, from 10am to 1pm, for artists to pick up their work as well. If you are unable to make any of these times, please let us know by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Is there a commission?
There is no commission on work sold unless payment needs to be processed through madelife, in which case we will charge a 10% processing fee.
How should I price my work?
This is an affordable art party, so we recommend you bring works for sale under $500.
Does everything I hang have to be for sale?
No but at least 50% of what you show should be for sale.
